Welcome to the Summer edition of KIAI - Online News Letter

Looking at all the chaos, economic problems and negative thinking in the world, I can’t help but be reminded of a little experience from a few years back.

A group of us were up in the mountains of Vermont doing Kyudo. It had been raining and drizzling for several days. The bows (yumi), arrows (ya), and strings (tsuru) were wet, kake (gloves) were wet, cloths were wet, even our tent was wet, and some, including me, were getting pretty melancholy.

One morning we all walked in for practice and I guess Sensei could see our demeanor. He smiled and said what’s the problem? It’s always sunny in here! We all smiled and the whole experience changed.

If you look at what’s going on in the world economy, job losses etc it’s pretty easy to get in the “dumps;” however, remember what Shabata Sensei said, "Grab your bokken, your sword, what ever and get to the dojo and work harder than ever…It’s always sunny in there."

I would like to thank the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame for their recognition and induction in 2009. This is the third year in a row I have been so honored: 2009 Grand Master of the Year.

As always, any information on seminars or events etc we will be glad to promote them as part of our online service.
